Wikileaks reveals that the U.S. uses Berlusconi’s own benefit....

As a country in decline with a ruling class inefficient and irresponsible, and a prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, is ”damaging” but that can be used, was defined by the former ambassador to Italy, Ronald Spogli U.S. according to the WikiLeaks site.

In the secret documents, published on Friday by the weekly L’Espresso, Spogli not hesitate to describe Italy as a”strong ally,”the United States can ask for almost anything because of their own weaknesses (Italy).

”The slow but steady economic decline of Italy compromises their ability to develop a role in the international arena,” said former ambassador dismissed a report to Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

Silvio Berlusconi with his frequent gaffes and wrong use of words has offended virtually every category of Italian and European leaders,” he said.

”His will (Berlusconi) is to put their personal interests above the country has damaged the reputation of Italy in Europe and, unfortunately, has a comic tone to his reputation in many parts of the United States government,” said.  Spogli acknowledged that damage to Italy, but suggested it should be helped by the United States, it is ”useful.”

”We must maintain a long-term commitment to Italy and its political leaders and this will give us important strategic dividends” he said.

Such dividends are referred to military operations in Lebanon and Afghanistan, and the stabilization of the Balkans.  ”If we use a lot of pressure, Italy exercise its economic leverage over Iran to send a clear signal that could influence its policy of nuclear development,” Spogli noted in his confidential report, revealed by Wikileaks.
