Period films and films dealing at length with historical events seem to be in fashion. And Vikram, who carefully follows the trend, seems to have made a wise move by being a part of the magnum opus Karikalan, a period and contemporary flick that is to be directed by L I Kannan.

Sources close to the unit say that the film will seek to chronicle Karikalan's life. While Harris Jeyaraj has been roped in for the music, N Karthik has been assigned the task of handling the camera. But more importantly, Zarine, who acted opposite Salman Khan in Veer, is to play the female lead in the film.

Seems like Vikram has a winner on his hands!
