Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi to Face Trial for Abuse of Power, Underage Sex with Ruby Rubacuori (Karima El Mahrough)

After several attempts to avoid prosecution, including trying to change Italian law to protect himself, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will appear in court on charges of abusing power and paying for sex with an underage prostitute. The trial date was set for April 6. At the heart of the "bunga bunga" scandal is Karima El Mahrough, a club dancer who goes by the name of Ruby Rubacuori, with whom Berlusconi has been linked. Karima El Mahrough was 17 years old at the time of the initial inquiry.

So far, hundreds of thousands of people, in Italy and abroad, have demonstrated for Berlusconi to resign. Silvio Berlusconi denies any wrongdoing.

Milan chief prosecutor Edmundo Bruti Liberati requested the fast-track trial on charges that Berlusconi paid for sex with nightclub dancer Karima El Mahrough, who was 17 at the time of the alleged activity, and later intervened with the police after she was arrested on an unrelated charge.
