Nelly Furtado once turned down $500,000 to pose for Playboy
Loose singer Nelly Furtado has admitted she once turned down $500,000 to pose for Playboy.
Nelly, 30, lives in Toronto with her husband and six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
She recently released her new album Mi Plan, which she sings entirely in Spanish.
Talking about the offer, she said: "The magazine was even prepared to pay me $500,000 to pose with my clothes on. I didn't want Playboy on my resume at the age of 22.
"If they ask me when I'm 40, I'll probably say yes."
Nelly released the single I'm Like a Bird in 2000 as the first single off her album Whoa, Nelly! and she admitted that fame took her by surprise.
She said: "It was too much too soon. After two years of intense touring and partying, I'd spend hours alone in my LA home, just staring at the floor.
"I felt like a fraud, believing that people liked me for my image and not my music."
Nelly Furtado releases dramatic Spanish album
Singer Nelly Furtado has revealed that she loves Spanish pop music because it is "extremely dramatic".
Furtado, 29, has recently released her fourth album, Mi Plan [My Plan] - the first album she has recorded entirely in Spanish.
She said: "What's so great about Spanish pop music is that you can be extremely dramatic - you have a lot of emotional licence.
"In English, especially as a woman, the moment you start to be angry, you get labelled bad-tempered like Alanis Morissette, or if you're too sad, you get written off as fragile and sappy."
She added: "On the single, Manos Al Aire [Hands Up], I'm very angry in the verse and super-vulnerable in the chorus. So it's very cool being able to straddle those two themes in one song. And I think it'd be a train-wreck in English."
Nelly Furtado has said releasing her new album sung in Spanish was the "next step" in her career
Nelly Furtado has said releasing her new album sung in Spanish was the "next step" in her career.
The 31-year-old Portuguese-Canadian singer is releasing her new album Mi Plan in September and it is her first only-Spanish album despite singing in English, Portuguese and Spanish on her three previous albums.
She said: "I've always sung in, well, three languages for the past five years. I've been singing in Portuguese and English since I was 2 years old, so I really love being a universal artist.
"I love being a world artist, so it's just my next step really. The Spanish project is just my next step to get to [being] 80 years old onstage, singing something. This is my next step in the puzzle."
Nelly added: "Mi Plan is my first album entirely in a Latin language. My past three albums have had 80 per cent English and 20 per cent Latin language, either Portuguese or Spanish. The fourth record is 100 per cent Spanish."
Talking about the topic of her new album, she said: "The songs are all about amor. They are all about love, and it's my first album with more love songs.
"They're really like songs that everybody can relate to about love and life and everybody living, just the things you go through. So basically, I found that once I started writing songs in Spanish, I had a new voice."
