The Twenty20 match between India and South Africa saw Makhaya Ntini bid an emotional but cheerful farewell having played South Africa cricket for over a decade. And Sachin Tendulkar, honoured on the occasion of the Krish Mackerdhuj trophy and of 150 years of Indians in South Africa, paid rich tribute to Ntini.
Following the Twenty20 match, Makhaya Ntini spoke few but pointed words on the occasion at the Moses Mabhida Stadium,
Hello, Durban. I would say to each and everyone of you, thank you very much for all the support. Been a lovely 12 years. To my family, I really appreciate you guys. I don’t know what to say, it was an honour to play cricket with Sachin. To all the South Africa boys, it has been great. I don’t wanna take long. We want to party!
The party he was referring to was obviously the concert that followed later that included performances from Bollywood actors including Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra.
Even though Sachin Tendulkar himself was being honoured by Cricktet South Africa, he was mindful of the occasion also being about Ntini,
I would like to thank CSA for this gesture. It’s been a terrific evening. Thanks for the support, and finally to Makhaya, the great champion. Great bowler, great competitor. Never gave up till the last ball. Till the last ball you didn’t allow me to relax, now I can. He is a great role model for everyone.
