Ricky Ponting: Even Great Sachin Tendulkar Does Not Always Perform

It seems that as if defeat in the test series is turning out to be a hard nut to crack for every Australian former player and Australian cricket fans.

Current Australian Captain Ricky Ponting is already facing lot of criticism for the defeat of his team. As a result of it all the former players of Australia are now demanding his resignation from the post of Australian captain.

It is to be noticed here that Australia came here with the intention of winning Border Gavaskar Test Series in India against India. Australian team started off-well on the tour against Board President XI.

Everything looked well by that time. But when Australian team got tested under extreme conditions by the World No.1 Test Team India in home conditions so Australian team collapsed like peck of cards.

Team India flunked Australia in all the departments of the game. Indian team not only flunked Australia in the test of nerves but also showed that Australia is playing against World No.1 Test Team.

As a result of it team India not only won Border Gavaskar Test Seriesbut also completed thumping whitewash against Australia.

This humiliating whitewash of Australia forced Australian selectors to rest Ponting so that he can come out with flying colors in Ashes. So as a result of it for ODI Series his deputy Michael Clarke has been appointed as a captain.

But it seems that Ricky Ponting is trying to make everybody understand that winning and loosing is a part of the game that should be accepted wholeheartedly.

He says that being a sportsperson we all played in the series against home side India with full spirit. In addition to it Ponting has also said that the team who plays well at cruch time during the match always wins and India did it better than us. As a result of it Indian team won the series.

But that does not mean we did not put our efforts from thebottom of our heart. Being an Australian player, captain and Australian Representative at International level as a cricketer I fully understand that none of us like defeat yet every team has to go taste victory or defeat when two best teams of the world play against each other.

In addition to it he is also facing lot of criticism about his recent form. Ricky Ponting has been trying to make his point clear that no player can always produce his best.

For this purpose he used the name of Cricket God and the Greatest batsman that Cricket History has every witnessed in the shape Sachin Tendulkar as a medium or example.

Australian captain Ricky Ponting says that he is deeply hurt by the remarks of Mark Taylor. In his defense Ricky Ponting used Sachin Tendulkar as a medium for making it clear that even Great Sachin Tendulkar is not at his best like he was in his youthful days and same is the case with me.

Ricky Ponting further says that there is a specific period the career of every player when he is at the best of his game. In addition to it he said that I have no doubt that Sachin Tendulkar is a great player but he is also not at his peak now.

Despite scoring 9 centuries last year he did not perform that well. Ponting also said that despite not being at his best like youthful days Sachin Tendulkar is effective as a member in the team.

He plays the role of a moral teacher as well as morale booster for his team players despite performing rarely these days. I do not mean to say that he does not perform at crunch situations but now he performs only when Indian team needs his performance in crucial matches.

At this age even Sachin Tendulkar saves his best for crucial matches and same is the case with me and everybody who plays cricket for his nation.

He further added that now Sachin has not been blasting the bowlers for a long period of time as he used to do in his yearly days despite this Indian selector are keeping him in the team because he is still effective not only as a player but also as a moral teacher and a career guide also.

He guides his mates about tough cricket and patches that come in the life of every player at some certain stages. In a same way I may not be at my best now but despite this I am still as effective as I was at the time of my career’s beginning and same role is being played by me.

I need not perform regularly in order to keep myself in the team because I am also effective in my team just the way Sachin Tendulkar is for team India.

Well it seems Mr. Ponting is trying to make everyone understand that needs to know that this game is of those people who are not only great performers but effective team members too.

In addition to it he has also tried to send a loud and clear message to everybody that only those people survive in this game that not only change themselves not only as performers but also as an effective team members too.

Moreover this game is also a test of nerves in which Sachin Tendulkar, Me and many other players has always performed outstandingly but has changed ourselves as per the need of the time. SO I may not perform in every match for Australia but I will certainly perform when Australian team will need me in crucial matches.
