PORTRAIT OF AN ALL-ROUNDER

PORTRAIT OF AN ALL-ROUNDER

From ferocity to flippancy, Yuvraj Singh has been known to experience chameleon shifts in his form. When he’s on song, he can shred any opposition to tatters. When not, he’s as klutzy as a bull in swamp.

This left-handed swashbuckler can provide firepower to the middle order of Indian batting line-up with shots that send the ball skyrocketing across the rope. He’s as much an aggressive hard-hitter of the ball as a predator at the point position when he fields with feline alertness, leaping halfway to meet the ball in rapid motion and pinning the batsman to the crease, when not sending him back to the pavilion.

Yuvraj Singh can be a great asset to the team. He can bat, bowl, and field exceptionally. The raw aggression of his fledgling years has now given way to a somewhat composed temperament, but the swagger that reflects confidence (some might say attitude) hasn’t flagged. Behind that confidence lays his father’s dream. As a child, Yuvraj was set on this path by his dad Yograj (an unsuccessful Test match player for India) who wanted his son to become only a cricketer.

As Yuvraj dons the blue again for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, here’s his last chance to make his father, his fans, and his country, proud. Go boy!
