Monica Bellucci's Brotherhood of The Wolf : French Movie Review
A critical review of the French action drama Brotherhood of the Wolf starring Monica Bellucci.
The Story of Brotherhood of the Wolf Aided by his Red Indian friend Mani, Gregoire de Fronsac, taxidermist of the Royal Gardens at Paris is dispatched to South Western France with the task of investigating the existence and if possible capturing a ferocious beast that was terrorizing the peasants of that region. The peasants described it as a wolf and the Church as the Devil incarnate, but when Fronsac discovers that the beast is using metal shards as a weapon he becomes convinced that whatever the nature of the beast, it is being governed by a man. After a massive hunt for the beast yields no results the Marquis requested the help of Mani and his understanding of the workings of the forest in order to snare the animal. But the consequences of learning the truth may prove to be even more disastrous for all concerned...
Review of Brotherhood of the Wolf
Pros 1. Decent and enjoyable story with lots of suspense and mild (enjoyable) romance mixed with some good fight scenes. 2.Amazing video-graphy. The thrill of this movie is greatly indebted to the great cinematography. 3. Good acting. Samuel le Bihan (as Fronsac) and Vincent Cassel (as Jean-Francois) deserve special mention. 4.Good background score to complement the movie and compound the thrill.
Cons 1. The reason I downloaded this movie in the first place was to get a better look at Monica Bellucci, and I was disappointed. As Sylvia she played a pivotal character in the movie but just didn't have enough screen time to enchant (as in Malena). You can feel her brilliance but cannot really witness it. 2. The movie is decent, but frankly I expected it to be a lot better. The storyline is shallow and at times hazy/confusing.
My Verdict on Brotherhood of the Wolf All together a pretty watchable movie with plenty of suspense, drama and even a few twists. Watched under the right circumstances ( read: alone in a cold, dark room) Brotherhood of the Wolf can give most of us a pretty good scare mainly because of its cinematography. In fact , if for nothing else, you should at least watch this movie for its amazing cinematography.
