The master blaster

The name Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is one of the most important parts of Indian cricket history. Born on April 24, 1973, Mumbai in Maharashtra, he is renowned as one of the best players ever to have played cricket.

A right handed batsman, Sachin Tendulkar was a child prodigy. Every time he goes out to bat, he carries hope and aspirations of millions of Indians. He is a statistician’s delight. He has several world records on his name. Since his early days at school, he was destined to become what he is today. He is the only Indian player to score a century in his debuts in Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy.

At the tender age of 16, he made his international debut against Pakistan. He scored 15 before being bowled by WaqarYunis. Since then it has been an untiring memorable journey. He made his mark against strong opponents like Australia and England in their own den. His maturity and class forced many cricket experts to predict his phoenix like rise in the tough and competitive arena of world cricket.

He is a proud owner of numerous world records. In fact, the list is endless. He is the most prolific run scorer in both forms of the game, Test and ODI. He has most runs and most number of centuries in both forms of the game.

He was the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs in one day cricket. He has also won the most number of Man of theMatch awards in ODIs. He has played for Mumbai, India and Yorkshire (the first foreign player to play for Yorkshire). He has also scored most number of runs in world cup history. He has also won the country’s highest sporting award ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award’ in 1997-98.

His most memorable moment came when the greatest player of all time, Sir Donald Bradman complimented him by saying ‘He reminds him of his own style’. One could not have asked more coming from the Master himself.

His passion and commitment for game is still the same as it was 19 years back. Despite all the adulation and praise, he still remains the same humble guy. He still has few years left in him and that is certain to provide many more moments to cherish for every true cricket fan.
