Silvio Berlusconi has always had a knack for making money. The eldest of three children, he began displaying his entrepreneurial ingenuity in grade school when he charged his classmates a small fee to watch his self-produced puppet shows. This self-made politico added to his coffers over the next few years by selling vacuums, working as a photographer and even singing on cruise ships before choosing to study law at the University of Milan.

Silvio Berlusconi found his true calling in 1963 when he established Edilnord, a small real estate and development firm. The company quickly blossomed into one of Milan’s top residential housing developers and was later responsible for the construction of Milano 2, a lavish 4,000-unit project located on the city’s eastern outskirts.
