When Sachin Tendulkar sledged!
Sachin Tendulkar says he, too, has sledged, but only once and that as part of team strategy. The batting maestro needled Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath by telling he would go after his bowling and the ploy worked.
“I have never sledged per se merely for the sake of sledging. I did that only once as a part of team strategy. This was at the Kenya Champions Trophy. We were playing Australia.” Tendulkar recollects in a book ‘SACH’ penned by Gautam Bhattacharya.
Tendulkar describes how he irked McGrath with a cheeky line.
“The match was played under overcast conditions. The wicket was also very damp. I had told Sourav before that I would do something to upset McGrath’s rhythm. So, in the very first over, I stepped out to him. The first thing I said to him was: ‘Today I will hit you out of the ground.’ He got really angry and started spraying the ball around. This was exactly what we wanted. As on that surface, he may have been very dangerous.
“We did win that match ultimately and I felt very happy. My sledging did work for the team. My own experience of sledging came very early on my first tour to Australia. I remember having blocked a delivery and the ball landed near my foot. I tried picking it up when Allan Border shouted from gully. ‘Don’t touch the ball.’ So I stopped immediately.”
Sachin Tendulkar talks about Kumble, Dravid, Ganguly & Laxman
Sachin Tendulkar says Anil Kumble is the greatest bowler he has played with, finds Rahul Dravid’s technique and concentration excellent and VVS Laxman the most wristy, while Sourav Ganguly is one who figured out his game well.
Tendulkar, who has closely seen all the four who formed the Fab Five of the Indian team not long ago, elaborated on the the style and substance of the four players.
“From the manner in which Rahul and Sourav had batted in their debut Test match, it was quite evident that they were there to stay.” Tendulkar said in a book titled ‘SACH,’ by Gautam Bhattacharya.
“Rahul’s forte was excellent technique and he loved to occupy the crease for long hours. Rahul concentrated extremely well — I mean, still concentrates very well. Sourav was somebody who figured out his game well enough. He knew which bowler to hit and which one to defend. Sourav liked scoring runs in boundaries. He was a boundary hitter.
“Laxman depended on hand-eye coordination. He was the most wristy player. And Kumble, of course, is the greatest bowler that I have ever played with. Apart from being a champion matchwinning bowler, his greatness lay in the fact that he would bowl the last delivery of the day with the same amount of fire irrespective of his performance during the day.
Tendulkar, who has been witness to the various contraptions that came into the game, feels, the computer has been the most important as it gives the opportunity to study the opposition. He, however, insists the electronic gadget cannot substitute the “skills” of a player.
“Your performance is the biggest indicator that skill can march well ahead of the laptop! The computer does play an important role in today’s cricket. You forget so many things. With the computer you can store them. For me the biggest advantage is you can study the opposition. The computer helps and provides you with that vital two to three per cent difference. As far as I am concerned it is not overrated.”
The team should take the pressure off Sachin: Dhoni
Ranchi, Feb 4 (IANS) India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni Friday said the team should perform well to take the pressure off batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar in the World Cup starting Feb 19.
Tendulkar,37, would be making his sixth appearance in a World Cup and the players have said they want to win the prized trophy for him.
‘It is not right to put pressure on Sachin. All the team members should perform well and ease the pressure off him,’ said Dhoni, who was in his home town here to inaugurate the Twenty20 Jharkhand Premier League (JPL) beginning Friday.
‘There is a perception that this is Sachin’s last World Cup. He can go on to play another World Cup,’ Dhoni.
He admitted that ‘fielding’ is one area which the team needs to improve.

It’s more than a year now and we’re still at the top and that’s been a great effort on part of the whole team,” he said. While speaking on the team’s prospects, Sachin underlined that there is much more coming up in the upcoming World Cup and that this is no way the end. Wishing Sachin all the best for the World Cup!

Sachin set to play in record 444th ODI
Johannesburg: The list of records never seem to end for batting icon Sachin Tendulkar who will be contesting in his 444th One Day International (ODI) when India take on South Africa at Johannesburg on Saturday, making him the most capped ODI player along with Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya.
Tendulkar was caught by Dale Steyn off the bowling of Lonwabo Tsotsobe for a mere 7 runs when he mistimed a pull shot.
The maestro who has been given the responsibility of opening the innings along with Murali Vijay will be looking to pile on the runs as India look to square the five match series which the Proteas currently lead 1-0.
Sachin who also holds the world record for most number of runs and as well as centuries scored in ODIs will be hoping for a better result than the first match at Durban when India were on the receiving end of a 135 run thrashing.
Bradman and Tendulkar stand out amongst all batsman
Brett Lee versus Sachin Tendulkar. This was one battle Sachin himself used to enjoy. But, that fascinating battle was cut short due to Lee’s constant injury problems while Sachin scaled peak after peak. The roaring success of the Little Master has even forced the Australian speedster to confess Sachin indeed belongs to a different league.
He has bowled to some of the world’s best batsmen in his career, but speedster Brett Lee feels iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar and the legendary Sir Don Bradman are in a different league. “It is always hard to compare players from different eras. I believe the best players in one era would compare with the best in others. That said, Bradman and Tendulkar are two players that stand out amongst all batsman. They are in a league of their own,” said Lee.
The 34-year-old Australian, who has retired from Tests, was reacting to a question whether it was proper to compare the Indian batting maestro with the late Australian legend when the two players had played under vastly different circumstances, rules and conditions.
Lee, who formed a lethal pace bowling partnership with fellow-Australians Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie that helped keep his country on top for more than a decade in the highest form of the game, was emphatic that Tendulkar was the best-ever batsman he had bowled to.
He also hailed the champion batsman for his stupendous feats of completing 50 Test tons and being the first and only batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs, and was wholesome in praise of the Indian maestro for getting a barrage of runs against top class pace away from home. “I have consistently said that Sachin is the best player I have bowled to. He is like a good bottle of wine, getting better with age. He is one of my favourite players and I am thrilled for him. He got these runs against real pace away from home. He is a true class,” Lee said.
Sachin Tendulkar dedicates his 50th ton to his late father
Sachin & Me
It was at tender age that she started watching you
When all other girls were busy exploring the outer world
She was only happy to see you bat
it was then that the life around her got twirled.
She was not allowed to enter this world
It was considered the boy’s place
How could a girl be a part of this
It would be such a disgrace
Still she kept carrying on
Because she wanted to see you more
Bunking the school and college
Just to see you score
Life just revolved around you
and it was strange indeed
It was you who made it look like
that the teenage was all keyed
Growing up with you made her realise
There are things which tie her down to the game
Whether its a fifty or a hundred
it was sheer pleasure that you had set aflame
She lost the way in between
With her life getting entangled with the troubles
Never did she lose hope and courage
coz it was you who took her out of the rubbles
When ever she was down and out
She would find the peace and solace
Only to see you do things for the game
with optimism, passion and dedication to brace
You have gone from first to 50th
and it seems that this is in no time
She still has the same adulation and love for you
Its been 21 years down the line
For you are the one who give her an identity
For you are the one who has always been there
It has been just an awesome journey really
To keep growing with you, Dear “Sachin Tendulkar”
Sachin is the real Bharat Ratna for me: Lata Mangeshkar
The legendary Singer and an avid Sachin Tendulkar fan, Lata Mangeshkar congratulated Sachin on scoring his 50th Test Century and wants him to carry on batting like this for the coming years as well. Wishing him all the success, she said that their’s has always been a Mother-Son relation and that she always prays for him like a mother does. Sachin has been a great fan of the “Nightingale of India” and considers her songs as a stress buster for him on the other hand Lata Mangeshkar also never leaves an opportunity to catch the Master Blaster playing LIVE.
On asked whether the country’s highest Civilian Honour “Bharat Ratna” should be bestowed upon him or not, she said, “For me, he is the real Bharat Ratna for years. Whatever he has done for the country, very few people can do. He deserves this honour. He has made all of us feel proud. India has produced many great cricketers but Sachin is Sachin. He is one and only in his generation.”
Lata admires the Champion batsman for the grit, passion and dedication he shows towards the game even after being there for 21 years. She feels that he is in a very good form which should help the team win the World Cup for the countrymen and make the whole country proud. She says that she feels blessed to have a ’son’ like Sachin Tendulkar and wants him to carry on his innings for many years and win the Bharat Ratna.
