It begins on a hot summer’s night, a sports car crashes headlong into a tree. The previous year… Paul meets the painter Frédéric through a mutual friend. Frédéric lives in Italy with Angèle, the actress with whom he is deeply in love. While working as an extra, Paul befriends an assistant – Roland and falls in love with Elisabeth, another extra. Frédéric invites Paul and Elisabeth to stay in Rome. He shows Paul a photo of the grandfather who raised him and, during dinner, introduces Roland to Angèle, who seems troubled by his presence. Later, in a hotel, Angèle sleeps with Roland. Time passes. Angèle leaves Frédéric.

Elisabeth falls pregnant with Paul’s child. Frédéric seeks a divorce. Paul and Elisabeth leave Rome. Elisabeth’s baby is born. When Paul meets Frédéric by chance in Paris, the painter tells him that Angèle and Roland have broken up. That night, Paul is woken by a phone call: Frédéric has had a terrible accident…. As he lies delirious in hospital, the ghost of his grandfather appears to Frédéric. When Paul arrives, the painter confides that the crash was no accident: without Angèle, life has become unbearable. Paul leaves, and Frédéric dies. On a burning summer’s day, in a small village churchyard, Paul watches as his friend’s body is laid to rest.

ROBERT DE NIRO SAYS: “BELLUCCI IS EXTRAORDINARY” 

“Monica Bellucci is the reason I agreed to make this movie. She has charisma and she is an extraordinary woman: I can’t think of another actress I would have shot those scenes with”, Robert De Niro says on his latest co-star Monica Bellucci.

“De Niro is amazing, when you watch him acting you forget about the star and you only see the actor”, says Bellucci in return.

This a piece of an interview with Robert De Niro and Monica Bellucci, made by Italian magazine Sette (on newstands in the next days). The two are chatting about their upcoming movie together, Giovanni Veronesi’s Manuale d’amore 3, and many other things from politics to Italian “dolce vita”.

Monica herself speaks about Italian women and latest polical scandals:

“Italy is the place where women still have difficult time in trying to reach high positions in society. They have to convince themselves they have the right to get their own place in the world without asking men for permission or help.”

She doesn’t seem surprised with the Bunga-bunga scandal:

“I know by experience there are men who pursue power only to get women. Power is more animal than you might think. I have known very powerful men who ended up tripping over their own feet, using their power only to impress women – it puts your nose out of joint”.

“De Niro è meraviglioso, quando lo guardi nel film ti dimentichi della star e vedi solo l’attore”, è la risposta di Monica.

Si tratta di un pezzo di intervista tratta da Sette, in edicola giovedì. I due parlano a proposito del loro film, Manuale d’amore 3 di Giovanni Veronesi, e di molte altre cose, dalla politica alla “dolce vita”.

La stessa Monica parla a proposito della condizione femminile in Italia e degli ultimi scandali politici:

“L’Italia resta un posto dove la donna fa più fatica che altrove a pensare per sé un ruolo decisionale. Sono proprio le donne che devono auto convincersi di avere diritto al loro posto nel mondo senza per questo dover chiedere il permesso e l’aiuto di un uomo”.

Ma non si stupisce dello scandalo del Bunga-bunga:

“Per esperienza femminile posso dire che ci sono uomini che inseguono il potere solo per poter avere le donne. Il potere è più animalesco di quanto si possa pensare. Ho conosciuto uomini di grande potere politico che finiscono per cadere in un bicchier d’acqua, il loro potere utilizzato solo per fare effetto sul genere femminile al punto da farti cadere le braccia”.
