Drew Barrymore Celebrates the Fighter with Good Food – and Friends!

Drew Barrymore was on-hand to catch up with friends Eva Mendesand Hilary Swank at a Dewar's Signature-hosted bash at the Brentwood, Calif., home of Fighter producer David Hoberman. Dressed in a sequined skirt, top and blazer, Barrymore was a bundle of energy as she made her way through the party with a male friend. She immediately ran into Terrence Howard, whom she kissed on the cheek. 

Apart from all the conversation, there was food – plenty of it – catered by Animal, an L.A. hotspot. Guests enjoyed passed appetizers, including mini-lobster rolls, scallops with warm truffle vinaigrette and blistered tomatoes, lamb meatballs with mint and tomato, and much more. 

There were cocktails (see below for a recipe), and plenty of sweets for dessert, including a sticky toffee pudding cake and a mini-bacon chocolate crunch bar. 

Equally sweet: the couples who mingled at the bash. Swank and her agent beau John Campisi had their arms wrapped around each other all night. Swank also greeted Barrymore with a big hug and raved about the food. 

And Sean Penn, ever the gentleman, shared his jacket with Mendes, with whom he was chatting in the backyard, after she got a bit chilly.

Dewar's White Label Smash

• 2 parts Dewar's White Label
• 1 or 2 mixing spoons granulated sugar or ¾ parts simple syrup 
• 2 pieces of lemon 
• 3 or 4 fresh mint leaves
• Seltzer 


Muddle mint, lemon and sugar in a glass. Add Dewar's White Label, crushed ice and shake well. Top with seltzer and garnish with a fresh mint.
