London, Oct 29 : Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi might not be a fan of equal distribution of wealth within his country but he certainly wants to share his scarlet fever with everyone.
The 73-year-old Berlusconi, who was believed to be holed up in bed after contracting scarlet fever from his grandchildren, took the pain of calling up a TV chat show and went on a diatribe to defend himself against the various scandalous allegations surrounding him.
When Giovanni Floris, the presenter of the chat show BallarĂ² on RAI asked him about his health, Berlusconi replied: “If you come to my house I would be happy to give it to you.”
He dubbed Italy’s judges and journalists, like those on the discussion panel of the show, as communists or left-wing conspirators, reports the Times.
Berlusconi latest ire was prompted by the court’s decision to reject an appeal by David Mills in a case that could well end his political career.
Mills, who had been his tax adviser failed to secure the court’s favour to overturn a conviction for receiving a bribe from Berlusconi to lie on his behalf in the corruption trials in the 1990s.
Berlusconi, who recently lost his immunity against legal action, now faces a string of court battles and it is almost certain that he will also be tried as Mills’s “corrupter”.
The show was going on when the Prime Minister’s call came suddenly. When Floris tried asking questions, Berlusconi said: “Let me me have my say and then I will answer questions,” and descended into a ten minute monologue.
He said he was the victim of “the communist magistrates and communist judges of Milan”.
He also accused RAI of using public money “to mount public trials. This is unacceptable. Television is not yours, even if all the broadcasts are left-wing. They are festivals of lies.”
Berlusconi’s private life has also come under the scanner since his wife Veronica announced she wanted a divorce, accusing him of "frequenting minors".
This was in context of Berlusconi’s relationship with 18-year-old model Noemi Letizia, to whom he gave a 6,000-euro necklace at her birthday party, before other girls came forward claiming to have been paid to attend his extravagant parties.
One of them, 42-year-old escort girl Patrizia D’Addario, claimed she slept with Berlusconi at one party and posted tapes of their supposed conversations on the Internet.
