MUMBAI: Poonam Pandey, the model who wants to keep her commitment to strip if Team Indiawins the World Cup, is not reachable. Her cellphone is switched off. She says she's being threatened by all kinds of people who have told her that she'll face dire consequences if she goes nude in public.
"If BCCI gives me the permission, I'll go ahead with my plans. Threats don't bother me," says a defiant Poonam, who insists that her proposed act will not only be a morale booster but also have therapeutic value for Team India.
The model, in a letter to BCCI writes, "I write to you as a great fan of cricket and above all a patriotic Indian. I want India to win the Cricket World Cup 2011, and am willing to go the extra mile to do anything so that India wins the World Cup. I have already expressed my desire to further motivate the Indian Cricket team to perform better and lift the World Cup.''
The 20-year-old model further states: "I'm ready and willing to go nude at any place and time that the Indian team chooses, to boost their sporting spirit to perform better. And I am serious about it as many studies conducted by various universities abroad confirm such performances boost and inspire people to perform better in any field, be it sports or otherwise. Even books on psychology confirm this.''
Poonam says that she's aware that appearing in nude in a public place is an offence, but adds that a private performance is a different matter. "Going nude in private with consenting adults for a therapeutic purpose is no offence. Even a contract for the same can be drawn up and should not be in violation of the Indian Contract Act as it is not opposed to public policy or morality. Besides, BCCI is not a government body, and can enter into such a contract,'' she suggests and requests that BCCI choose a foreign city, like Paris, for her performance as there would be no hindrance of the law or controversy.
