It was surely a prideful moment for the Soda village ofRajasthan when their head led the 11th Info-Poverty World Conference at the United Nations. Chhavi Rajawat is a young woman of 30 who belongs to a backward rural area of Rajasthan State in India and this lady made the history by leading a UN conference where various ambassadors and ministers ofbig nations were present. Wearing jeans and shirt, the lady stunned the audience at times when sheintroduced herself before them saying she was the sarpanch of a village.
Even the people from India were also stunned hearing that news because they knew that only the old aged people become the head of any village. Specially, her get-up does not match the values of village, she wears jeans and is an MBA and knowshow to operate computer. It is not known how the villagers accepted her as their head. The Soda Village is located approximately 60 km from Jaipur.
She is the only sarpanch holding a degree in business administration. Before this prestigious post, she was serving the Bharti-Tele Ventures of Airtel Group as senior manager but she quit that post to serve those who were more close to her life. She says India can make progress with a faster speed than it is doing at this time. Givingthe example of her own village, she said that the residents of Soda Village had radically changed their lives in just one year and all it had done by the villagers themselves. At the end, she thanked the United Nations for the conference.
