Winona Ryder

Hollywood star WINONA RYDER has turned her creative talents to writing - penning the forward to her late godfather's biography.

Counter-culture icon TIMOTHY LEARY died in 1996 aged 75, and has been remembered fondly by Ryder in a short introduction to his memoirs.
She says of the psychedelic drug advocate, "He made me believe I could do anything."
Ryder and her father MICHAEL HOROWITZ, Leary's best friend, have already signed to be creative consultants for a forthcoming project by LEONARDO DiCAPRIO's production company to make the first biopic of the LSD pioneer.

Troubled actress LINDSAY LOHAN is facing a mandatory jail sentence after her arrest for drink driving on Tuesday (24Jul07).

The 21-year-old was arrested for drink driving and drug possession after a car chase in Santa Monica - just two months after she was involved in a drunken car crash in Los Angeles.
Under California law the two DUI charges in close succession means prosecutors can push for a minimum of four days in jail.
And celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos - who has defended Michael Jackson and Winona Ryder - warns Lohan she faces time behind bars.
He said on talk show Larry King Live on Tuesday, "Everybody talks about the second DUI and that's the problem.
"The prosecutor, depending on who it is and what they want to do, can allege she's committed a new crime. That's the real problem here. That's where she faces some significant possibility of real jail time, not just the 96 hours that's mandatory minimum for a second offense.
"You've got that original felony and she's out, you know, on her own recognizance and then picks up a second felony, you can put an allegation in there that potentially raises the stakes from just a - what would normally be a county jail case to a state prison case.
"Is a plea bargain in the works? It's not just a possibility, it's an absolute reality. They're not going to fight this. They're going to go in there. They're going to beg. They're going to plead. And they're going to do whatever they think they can to get a deal in this case."

WINONA RYDER would have wed ex-boyfriend JOHNNY DEPP if her parents hadn't put an end to wedding talk.

In a new interview with Vogue magazine, the actress and her father, Michael Horowitz, discuss the Heathers star's romance with Depp.
And, although the family loved their daughter's Edward Scissorhands co-star, they disapproved of the couple's wedding plans.
In the article, Horowitz says, "They were the hottest couple in the United States at that time, like Brad (Pitt) and Angelina (Jolie)... You guys were cool."
But Ryder recalls, "You stopped a wedding."
The actress' father responds, "We loved Johnny but you were 17."
He later asks, "Was Johnny angry at us for stopping the wedding? We had dinner soon after, and I didn't get a bad vibe."

WINONA RYDER is dating another rocker after finding love with RILO KILEY star BLAKE SENNETT.

The actress, who has dated rockers Dave Pirner and Adam Duritz in the past and has been romantically linked to Ryan Adams and Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl, has been secretly romancing Sennett for months, according to In Touch Weekly magazine.
Ryder even dashed back from Milan Fashion Week in Italy at the end of September (07) to meet the rocker in Washington, D.C., where he was performing.

RAY star KERRY WASHINGTON has topped a new online list of 2007 femme fatales.

Washington's portrayal of a vixen trying to break up Chris Rock's marriage in I Think I Love My Wife landed the actress the top spot on FilmStew.com's list of hot girls - ahead of Christina Ricci's starring role in Black Snake Moan.
The top 10 femme fatales also includes Winona Ryder in The Ten, Saffron Burrowsin Reign Over Me and Kate Winslet in Romance And Cigarettes.

WINONA RYDER spent years feeling "ashamed" of her acting career, because she thought it was a "shallow occupation".

The MERMAIDS star, 34, started acting in her teens and hated the reaction to her job from the public and her associates.

She says, "I know how nauseating it is when actors complain about their lives. We're sickeningly well-paid people who have very charmed lives. But that doesn't mean you don't have problems.
"For a long time I was ashamed of being an actress. I felt like it was a shallow occupation.
"And people would be watching my every move. They'd be judging me: 'Look at her shoes. I bet they cost $400.' In fact, I grew up with no money - we lived without electricity, running water or heating except for a stove."
