It is now official. Monica Bellucci will be playing Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Jagmohan Mundhra’s next movie (yes, he did it!) Bellucci has done very interesting films ranging from ‘The Passion of The Christ’ (2004) while her role in the 1996 French thriller Appartement, L’ won her a coveted French award.

The woman who will play Sonia Gandhi is considered one of the sexiest actresses and has constantly been among the ’sexiest women’ lists in famous magazines. The stylish Italian actress will now be playing Sonia Gandhi though she is considered by many to be too glamorous for the role. She has also appeared nude on print, showing off her beautiful body.

The actress is a beauty with brains – she studied law and started modeling. After making a name for herself in the world of modeling, she moved to films. She made her debut in television in 1990 and appeared on the silver screen in Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. There has been no looking back since then. She should have no problem portraying Sonia Gandhi considering she is fluent in Italian, English, and French. Recently, she was seen in ‘The Brothers Grimm’ in 2005 and will be seen in ‘Shoot ‘Em Up’ which will be released in 2007.

There is no doubt that Bellucci is an accomplished actress. However, the question is whether she is qualified to play Sonia Gandhi. The Congress President is known for protecting her privacy. Her reaction to Mundra’s project is as yet unknown. How will Congress party men react? In India, where politicians are treated as demy-Gods, Mundra is treading on thin ground. Whether he will be able to succeed is the million dollar question on everyone’s mind.
